NTSB Calls for Nationwide Cell Phone Ban For Commercial Drivers

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued a proposal recommending a cell phone ban while driving for commercial drivers including truckers and bus drivers.

'It may not be something that's widely embraced,'' contends NTSB chairman Deborah Hersman. ''This is not going to be popular. But, we're not here to be popular. We're here to do what needs to be done.''

Seat belts save lives, as does paying attention to the road--and not one's cell phone conversation. More people die each year on the nation's highways than in any other form of transportation. Last year alone saw over 24,000 people die in cars and trucks on the roadways. Although the NTSB does not carry the authority to make this proposal happen, they will continue to push and hope that those with authority, like the states, will "see the light."
