Nationwide Texting While Driving Crackdown on July 4th Weekend
Police will be out in full force this holiday weekend to catch distracted drivers using their cell phones. Twenty-eight states and the District of Columbia already have bans against texting while driving, while nine other states ban texting for novice drivers. Six new texting while driving laws are scheduled to go into effect in July.
States are using this Independence weekend to shine light on distracted driving, a serious issue that puts not only oneself in danger but also everyone else on the road. Using a cellphone has become so second nature and frequent for many people that they tend to ignore or forget that there really are laws banning a cell phone's use while driving a vehicle. To mix any activity with driving is always a bad idea, especially an activity that needs as much focus as texting, reading or talking on a phone.
